Deflasked 36 months ago, this is the first of a batch of vigorous seedlings with beautiful emerald and jade mottled leaves, completely absent any pigment.  March 2020
Picture

Picture

Phrag. besseae 'Zephyrus Peach' HCC/AOS

Legacy breeding from Orchid Zone, these full round petals feel like crimson velvet! March 2020

Paph. fairrieanum 'Zephyrus Rioja' AM/AOS

Bred in Hawaii, this clone shows great coloration and, according to the award description, a 'remarkably flat dorsal'. March 2020

Picture

Phrag. longifolium v. album 'Zephyrus Mint' HCC/AOS

Awarded 79 points, flowers were luminous yellow green with a natural spread of 16 cm (the 12th flower for the spike). The best feature of this clone is its flowering habit: unlike the coloratum form, the spikes are consistently compact with very tightly spaced bracts on small, compact plants (greenhouse grown). At time of the award, one of the spikes was branched, carrying a third set of floral bracts just like those shown here. October 2019
Picture

Paph. henryanum 'October Trio' JC/AOS

This photo was a loooooong time in the making....we have been growing several clones of both the coloratum form as well as f. christae (from the Perners) for several years, right alongside f. album 'Ghost Leopard' CHM/AOS. The stars finally aligned and all three bloomed together, making for this interesting photo! October 2019
Picture

Paph. stonei f. luteo-album 'Hilo Lemon-n-Ice' CHM/AOS

First blooming for us in July of 2015, this clone was used as the type specimen for the formal botanical description of this albino variety by Harold Koopowitz and Olaf Gruss in Orchid Digest 80-1, pp. 20-21 (Jan., Feb., Mar. 2016). At that time it had two flowers, however on its next bloom, pictured here, it produced three. Unlike many albinistic varieties, it seems to be a good grower, seemingly more prolific than the coloratum variety. October 2018

Dendrobium lawesii 'Pink and White' x self AQ/AOS

Dendrobium lawesii is a very gratifying species to grow given its freeblooming habit with very colorful flowers. Staking canes upright shows off the flowers and enables you to grow more plants in a smaller space. Like other species in the genus, colour genetics is highly variable. In an effort to propagate the more unusual pink and white bicolor flower combination, the breeders at Ecuagenera selfed one such clone. Unbelievably, an enormous diversity of colour was seen from these plants coming from a single flask. Recognized for 'flower size and diverse colour combinations on thirteen first bloom seedlings, colour range includes red, white, pink, rose, magenta, gold, yellow and orange.' Paph. hookerae 'Pink Soupspoons' AM/AOS

One of my favourite species, the photo does not do this clone justice with its electric pink petal tips! In the right photo, pictured in the center with some of its siblings...

Coel. Orchideengarten Joachim AQ/AOS
(usitana 'Ed's Choice' x salmonicolor 'Milan' HCC/AOS)

Coel. usitana is a relatively new species with beautiful ivory flowers, wonderfully contrasted with an orange to brown lip, however this species is most remarkable with its continuous blooming habit. Coelogyne salmonicolor tends to make clusters of flowers that are translucent salmon colored, atypical for the genus, from compact, vigorous plants that can have an orange tinge to the foliage. The objective of this cross was to combine the colourful flowers of salmonicolor with the continuous blooming habit of usitana.

Coel. Orchideengarten Joachim 'Ed Cott' AM/AOS

4 flowers and 4 buds on 2 arching inflorescences, this was the biggest and best of the bunch with a wonderfully contrasted burnt orange lip and column.

Picture

Coel. Orchideengarten Joachim 'Duneshill Everblooming' HCC/AOS

4 flowers and 4 buds on 3 inflorescences. The most salmon coloured flowers of the whole batch, you can see from the notches on the spikes that this plant had already produced about 12 flowers prior to judging!

Paph. Berenice aureum 'Blushing Ghost' AM/CCM/AOS

16 flowers and buds on 3 spikes....not quite a true album, this can be used as a stepping stone to album forms of some fantastic near primaries such as Jerry Spence, Screaming Eagle or Winged Flight! Photo courtesy of Jay Norris.

Cynorkaria Memoria Don Garling AQ/AOS

(Cynorkis calanthoides x Habenaria carnea)

Cynorkis calanthoides is a rare Madagascan terrestrial orchid that often grows on trunks of Pandanus trees with downward facing umbels of large, full, lilac coloured flowers from enormous single leafed plants. The objective of this cross was to create large, full, round lilac coloured flowers on upright spikes from plants with a compact habit. Named in honour of the late Don Garling, an avid grower, AOS judge, and dear friend from Lansing, Michigan.

The very rare album form of this charming miniature, first time recognized by the AOS.

Paph. sanderianum AQ/AOS

Many years in the making, all 12 first bloom seedlings were in peak show condition at the same time for just 5 days! This grex appears to have captured the rich coloration of the ‘highland form’ with the remarkable petal length of the ‘lowland form’. March 2011.

Picture

Paph. sanderianum ‘Dr. John Doherty’ AM/AOS

Easily the finest of the group, this clone has tremendous deep rich colour on thick, broad segments of exceptional substance. Boasts nearly the widest dorsal on record, second only to ‘Rapunzel’, the trademark colour break in the striping is all but vanished.
Picture

Paph. sanderianum ‘Sam Tsui’ AM/AOS

Carrying the longest petals of the group, these were measured at 86 cm
Picture

Paph. sanderianum ‘Marcia Doherty’ HCC/AOS

Also noted in part for its petal length, here measuring 83 cm.

Paph. sanderianum ‘Holly Nicole’ HCC/AOS

Unique white colored petals shoulders make for great contrast against rich coloured segments and pouch.
Picture

Paph. sanderianum ‘Jordyn Bryn’ HCC/AOS

Picture

Paph. sanderianum ‘Madelyn Camille’ HCC/AOS

70 cm petals on a plant just 45cm across, this will be a noteworthy parent for small, compact, free blooming plants.
The tannest coloured flowers of the group, also with attractive white petal shoulders

Picture

Paph. Chiu Hua Dancer (sanderianum x gigantifolium) ‘Nicole’s Spiral Staircase’ AM/AOS

Although grown from compliantly imported flask, this has apparently been nullified as Indonesia has never issued an export permit for the pollen used here (??). Amazing and unique petals, slowly spiraling, unlike any other long petalled Paph. May 2010. Photo courtesy Jay Norris.
